Kathryn James

Founding Partner

Kathryn James is a family law attorney whose practice includes divorce, custody modifications, original suits affecting the parent-child relationship, adoption, termination of parental rights, and enforcement matters. She has served as an amicus attorney, assisting the court in protecting a child’s best interests, and as an attorney ad litem, providing legal representation to a child in certain cases.

Kathryn has also served as a certified family law mediator since 2020 and practices primarily in Comal and Guadalupe counties. She takes her clients’ concerns and goals seriously and draws on her negotiation and litigation experience when handling difficult family law matters.

Biography

Kathryn grew up in Bulverde, Texas, and attended Smithson Valley High School, then Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. She worked for a law firm in Austin before beginning law school to gain perspective on the practice of family law. Kathryn attended Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas, before moving to New Braunfels, Texas, to live and practice with her husband and fellow attorney, Peter James.

After law school, Kathryn practiced family law and criminal defense. When she opened her firm in 2021, she began phasing out criminal defense to focus her practice on family law.

Kathryn received a Rising Star of New Braunfels award in 2020 and graduated from Leadership New Braunfels in 2022. Kathryn is an active member of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, the Comal County Bar Association, and the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce. Kathryn volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas, New Braunfels Jaycees, and the Sophienburg Museum. In her free time, Kathryn enjoys raising her son, playing with her dogs, hiking, and traveling.
